All Aboard for NVQ Success

Published: Thursday 16 February 2012

A brand new training partnership between Blackpool Transport and Blackpool and The Fylde College will ensure new state of the art trams come complete with the highest levels of customer service.

When the well publicised Bombardier tram system launches in April, all tram drivers and conductors working on board will be working towards achieving at least NVQ Level 2 standard in either Customer Care or Rail Services.

This means not only will customers enjoy a comfortable, faster journey but the team operating the trams will offer travellers the highest quality service too.

Feedback from existing Blackpool Transport staff undertaking the NVQ is already positive, with many embracing the opportunity to not only learn new skills, but to gain a nationally recognised qualification along the way.

John Swannie, Head of the School of Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality at the College is pleased to be a part of such a high profile and important programme:

“We’re delighted the College is involved in this initiative, which has such a lot of potential in terms of improving the visitor experience in Blackpool. A well trained, safe workforce with excellent customer care is a World Class ambition and the College feels privileged to be playing its part in achieving that.”

Annie Ogilvie, Human Resources and Training Manager at Blackpool Transport added:

“All of the people we recruit, both drivers and conductors, must have a desire to offer great customer service to our customers. With the help of the College we can ensure that they have the best training to enable them to do this.

“In these difficult times there are not that many opportunities to not only find permanent employment but to be part of an exciting new initiative. Working with the College means that all of these people will gain a very valuable qualification too.”

Blackpool Transport is currently recruiting trainee driver/conductors who will commence their NVQ after successful interview. For more information, visit www.blackpooltransport.com .
