Fine Art graduate exhibits amongst the best in the northwest

Published: Thursday 15 September 2016

B&FC Fine Art Graduate Steven Wilson has taken his place in the Class of 2016 and is currently exhibiting his work as part of the Hannover Project.

Every year the online arts magazine The Double Negative invites art schools across the northwest of England to nominate one outstanding student to feature in their article ‘Class of 2016’. The article aims to spotlight the region’s top fine art graduates and demonstrate the artistic diversity of our creative institutions.

Steven Wilson was nominated by Ann Carragher, Fine Art Lecturer, and Nick Kowalski, Programme Leader Fine Art here at B&FC. Through a Baudrillardian perspective, Wilson recontextualises iconic images, sounds and brands which encapsulate and embody our relationship with “non-human things”. His works reinforce aspirational ideals, created and consumed through a system of proliferation, seduction and commodity fetishism.

Recognising an opportunity to celebrate this accolade, the 2016 nominees have come together to turn the review into an exhibition and represent the scope of fresh talent currently emerging into the art-world. As a participating university, UCLan’s gallery space ‘The Hanover Project’ is the first to host the group exhibition and gives the viewer the opportunity to explore a range of disciplines including film, painting, sculpture, installation and performance.

See the Class of 2016 exhibition from 10am-5pm (Mon-Fri) Thursday 15-Thursday 29 September 2016 at Hanover Project, UCLan, Preston — FREE Closing Party 29 September 2016, 5-7pm.
