This is the most recent of Fleetwood Offshore Survival Centre’s (FOSC) developments. FFFC was commissioned in August 2001 and is situated approximately one mile from the main campus covering an area of about half an acre of land.
The facility consists of two purpose built smoke galleries that have been fitted out to represent the internal structures of a ship and offshore installations. A fire extinguisher training run is situated in front of the two galleries.
In addition the facility has three “clean burn” fire props which allow the students to practise fire fighting techniques before being allowed to enter the smoke galleries under real heat and smoke conditions whilst wearing breathing apparatus.
The facility is equipped with the latest types of breathing apparatus, fire hoses and branches commonly found on Merchant Vessels.
Current accreditations include OPITO, and STCW 95 courses. Third stage plans for FFFC include expansion to provide the specialised OPITO fire-fighting courses, Fire Team Member and Fire Team Leader which will necessitate the purchase of additional equipment, gallery space and land.
All staff employed at FFFC are fully trained fire-fighters who are experienced trainers and assessors in the fire-fighting training field.
