Inaugural Enrolment for New Sixth Form College
Published: Saturday 22 August 2015
Results Day was a landmark day for the Fylde Coast as the first
students enrolled at Lytham Sixth Form College.
The new College, on Church Road, opens its doors in September and students were given a first look at the place where they will spend the next two years studying A Levels and equivalent Extended Diplomas.
Among the first to enrol was Jemima Bolton, from Lytham St Annes High School. Jemima, who was celebrating her ten A*s and two As, said: “It’s quite exciting being part of the new sixth form college. I’m looking forward concentrating on the subjects I’m really interested in. I’ll be studying A Levels in History, Law, Philosophy and Ethics and Geography - I may go on to study law at university when I finish sixth form.”
Friend Lucinda Heavyside, also from Lytham St Annes High School, added: “I’m really pleased with my results, I got an A*, seven As and a B. I think studying at a new campus will make me feel more grown up and I’m looking forward to having a bit more independence. I’ll be studying A Levels in Media, Photography, Psychology and Geography at Lytham Sixth.”
William Park will be focusing solely on Engineering when he begins his Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels, in less than two weeks. He added: “I’m all signed up now and I’ve got my student badge already. I’m also looking forward to getting started and having more independence this year.”
Talia Nyarhi may be undecided about her future career choice but she was looking forward to getting stuck into a theatre related course at Lytham Sixth after achieving the results she needed. Talia said: “I’m happy with my results. It’s exciting being one of the first students at the new college and I’m really looking forward to the course. I also got to test some of the food which they’ll be offering in the canteen and that was really good too! I`m not sure what I want to do in the future but hopefully college will help me to decide.”
Head of Lytham Sixth Form College, Mandy Pritchard, deemed the first enrolment day a success. She said: “It has been a very successful first enrolment day for Lytham Sixth Form College. It’s encouraging to see so many students with excellent results enrolling onto our A Level and Extended Diploma courses. We have welcomed students from high schools across the Fylde, all eager to be a part of this exciting new college. After all the hard work, the whole team is now looking forward to the first day of term.”
