A Big Draw for Lytham Sixth Open Day
Published: Tuesday 6 October 2015
the local community are being asked to support Lytham Sixth Form
College students and take part in the national Big Draw festival
at the campus.
The Lytham Sixth Form College Open Day on 10 October is set to be a real hands-on event, with Art and Design students chosen to participate in this year’s Big Draw. Students will lead the 'Big Windmill Draw', a collective drawing and collage project comprised of the outlines of participants' hands and silhouettes which will be used to create the form of the Lytham Windmill.
Tutor Ellie Jakeman said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our Art and Design students to work on a national initiative and involve the local community in their first major art project. We`ve chosen to draw the Lytham Windmill since it’s a historic and well-loved landmark of our community.
“I’m really pleased that the students are able to be involved with such a high profile project just a month into the course; we’re putting Lytham Sixth Form College on the map! Hopefully this can become an annual event to give students the chance to work to a live brief, but for it to be a success we need plenty of people to turn up.”
The Big Draw event is open for all age groups and students are encouraging everyone from children to grandparents to get involved. Small children will be able to make their own windmills and get windmill face paint in the special windmill garden, plus there’s a chance to take a look at the newest college in the area as well as supporting students, having some fun and be part of a life-size, collective art installation.
To get involved, simply turn up at Lytham Sixth Form College between 11am-2pm on Saturday 10 October. Free parking is available on site. For more information, visit http://thebigdraw.org/event/6015
