Sports Coaching and Exercise Science - Foundation Degree (Liverpool John Moores)

B&FC

Qualification Obtained: Sports Coaching and Exercise Science

Course Overview

Sports Coaching and Exercise Science is dynamic, current and provides an excellent course of study with experienced and highly skilled staff. The course is designed to provide three clear career pathway goals for those currently undertaking the FdSc qualifications; these include employment as a field based sports coach, working with individual athletes and teams, as an exercise professional or sport science support worker and sports and exercise teaching within an educational environment. This qualification has been designed to equip students to succeed in these areas and go onto positive and fulfilling employment.

Expert coaches such as Tony Whelan –(Head of Academy Coaching - Manchester United FC) and Luke Turner – (Head of Sports Science at MUFCGirls/ Strength & Conditioning Consultant – England Women’s Rugby) along with and industry representatives from Blackpool Leisure Services, AFC Fylde, Fleetwood Town FC and the UK Athletics Coach Development Unit were in consensus that recent graduate coaches needed a stronger sports science underpinning to their skill set. This programme of study reflects a clear and visible sport science pathway that sits alongside traditional and more diverse coaching careers.
