Foundation Degree in Sport Studies and Development
C600
The Foundation Degree in Sports Development is a vocationally based qualification that offers the student an innovative introduction to the concept of sports provision within the community.
All aspects of the coaching process will be examined with students being given the opportunity to enhance their skills both practically and theoretically. There will be opportunities to gain a raft of national governing body recognised coaching qualifications in the science and practice of coaching.
Graduates of the Foundation Degree in Sports Development will be well placed to convert their foundation degree into a BA (Hons) top-up degree in Sports Development with the College. Alternatively, you may wish to take up employment in areas such as community sports development, community based coaching, clinical exercise and rehabilitation or the fitness/leisure industry.
There is a growing demand for more and better qualified sports practitioners and administrators in all areas of community based sports provision within the UK. This course offers the individual the opportunity to gain sound background knowledge in all aspects of sports development.
Although the aim is to provide a wide range of teaching and learning experiences, primary focus will be on lectures, seminars, discussions and tutorials during which students will be encouraged to progressively develop their analytical and critical abilities. Modules will make appropriate use of industrial visits, visiting speakers, presentations and technology. This mix of practical, theoretical and intellectual development will enable each student to recognise and demonstrate personal strengths. Students will be encouraged to become independent learners with appropriate study skills and an increasing ability to apply research skills within the vocational setting.
Graduates of the course will be qualified to undertake community based sports provision which includes multi-games coaching and an ability to work within the UK Coaching Certificate scheme at levels 1 and 2.
Once you’ve decided to apply for a course, you’ll need to work out whether you satisfy our entry requirements (or will have done by the time your course starts). Providing you meet the criteria, you can then apply for your course. Full-time applications go through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), although foundation degree graduates progressing to a relevant top-up programme can (subject to certain criteria) apply to the College direct.
