This two year highly vocational and practical course is designed to help aspiring performers, sound engineers, songwriters and producers break into the contemporary music industry.
Experienced tutors with a wealth of industry knowledge will help you to develop a range of skills in performance, production, recording and composing. Using your vocal or instrumental ability, you will create both live and recorded music and participate in projects with other musicians as well as others in the creative industries so that you can fully appreciate the scope of opportunities available to you. You will have access to great facilities, including sound-proofed well equipped rehearsal rooms, editing suites, recording studios and computer suites featuring the latest industry-standard software. You will also study historical and contemporary music to inform your own work. With all this at your disposal, you will have everything you need to practise and prepare music to the highest professional standards laying foundations for future success in the business.
The course maintains a strong industry focus, where live briefs and competitions are commonplace, together with a mature and professional working environment.

Assessment is based purely on coursework... there is no exam. The course consists of 17 subject units and the course is designed to allow students several chances to succeed in each unit. Work may be re-submitted at any stage during the course to improve grades. Grades attainable range through Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction* and hold the same value as C-A* at A-level. The qualification you will receive from this course is equivalent to three A-levels.
This course provides a great preparation for a career in the music industry and is designed to enable students to gain paid employment in performance, recording, music management, and teaching. Students may progress onto BA Honours Degree level courses in music or music technology. Students who go directly into employment will typically start in junior positions, or may apply for a Level 3 Creative Apprenticeship to gain further qualifications in the workplace. Whatever you decide, the qualification, skills and portfolio you gain through this course will help you achieve your goals.
You will be working on practical assignments where you will be producing musical work or be involved in musical projects. In addition you will be given the opportunity to investigate experimental approaches to your work, combining a wide range of techniques. You will be expected to research, plan, explore, develop, produce and then evaluate your ideas and you will have the chance to show off your work at the exciting end of year concerts.
