Qualification Obtained: HND in Nautical Science

Course Overview

This programme is aimed at applicants wishing to pursue a career at sea. Students will either have a sponsoring company or be undertaking the qualification in their own right. The HND, when combined with certain professional qualifications, will entitle successful students to apply to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for a Certificate of Competency ( for employment as a chief officer on board merchant vessels). For applicants who have already completed an HNC Nautical Science, this course precedes the sea service required to qualify for Chief Mate (unlimited) Certificate of Competency.

Course Entry Requirements

Candidates will require a minimum of 18 months' sea-time as a watchkeeping officer while holding an STCW95 Officer of The Watch Certificate of Competency (CoC)

Blended Learning HND - Entry to the course is at the discretion of the College, however, by the end of the course you will need to have completed 36 months' approved sea-time. for further information please email the Blended Learning Unit at blearning@blackpool.ac.uk
