About this Course:

Breakdown problems into small steps in order to solve them Learn how to use a calculator to solve problems quickly and effectively GCSE Mathematics covers a wide range of basic mathematical knowledge and skills, grouped into four areas.

  • Numbers: Fractions, decimals, percentages.
  • Algerbra: Equations, Formulae and graphs.
  • Shapes and Space: Geometry, measurement, bearings, area and volumes.
  • Statistics: Bar charts, pie charts, probability and averages.
While studying mathematics you will:
  • Use mathematical skills and knowledge to solve problems.
  • Use logic and reason to solve problems.
  • Break down problems into small steps in order to solve them.
  • Learn how to use a calculator to solve problems quickly and effectively.

Entry Requirements:

Either a grade D in Maths or experience of numbers in employment or life.

Assessment Methods:

GCSE Maths is 100% exam assessed.

On part time and adult full time programmes exams are taken at the end of the course, whilst on full time programmes for 16-8y year old learners smaller exams are spaced out through the year.

Progression:

A grade B in GCSE Maths would enable you to do A level Maths, whilst a grade C in Maths is essential for more and more areas of employment.
