GCSE Mathematics covers a lot of basic skills that will be used in a variety of ways throughout life. You will study Number work, algebra, space and shape and statistics. You can study this subject as a full time or part time student.
The Mathematics department has well qualified staff, many of whom are experienced GCSE examiners. We have an excellent record with students who have little confidence with Mathematics.
You will spend a great deal of time in lessons working through examples. You will be taught formally and though individual learning. Computers will be used in class and you will be encouraged to use these individually too. You will be expected to spend at least two hours at home working independently through assignments, which will be set.
You will have to take two examinations at the end of the course. These will be worth 80% of the total marks.
Both examinations are a mixture of short and longer questions
You will have to do two pieces of coursework, both worth 10% each. One of these will be a data handling project, where you will research a topic, and the other will be a mathematical investigation, where you will look for patterns and try to find rules to solve problems.
Most students do not have to pay full tuition fees and many students have their course fees waived completely depending on their age and circumstances.
