This vocationally focused programme develops the necessary skills and knowledge to enable a successful career in the fast growing and varied industry that encompasses international resort operations. Not only do graduates get a degree awarded by one of the country's leading universities, but enjoy the benefits of studying at a long-established, recognised centre of excellence for hospitality and tourism management.
Students are assessed continuously, through a combination of assignments, project-based assessments and examinations. Many of the assessments are related to industry based topics.
The tourism industry in general continues to be one of the most buoyant industries and the development of resorts on both micro and macro levels are a contemporary feature of the world economy. A wealth of opportunities is available to successful graduates both at home and abroad.
In addition to the acquisition of vocationally relevant skills and knowledge, the course offers the opportunity for putting this into practice during the placement. This is a 48 week paid placement between years 2 and 4 and it is completed either in the UK or abroad. A variety of locations can be chosen, all of which are subject to careful vetting and the subject of ongoing monitoring. Highly skilled placement co-ordinators are on hand to help you with your choices.
A variety of teaching methods is used including: lectures, seminars, industrial visits and visiting industrial speakers. Class time is, on average 12 14 hours per week over 2 or 3 days. However, in addition students are expected to work independently.
A feature consistently recognised in external reviews is the amount of additional support provided by staff outside of class time. This will enable all students to maximise their full potential. We are here to help you.
The programme will develop the communication, problem solving and organisational skills essential for managers in today's tourism industry. Interpersonal and communication skills are also highly profiled. Cultural awareness also features strongly.
Once you’ve decided to apply for a course, you’ll need to work out whether you satisfy our entry requirements (or will have done by the time your course starts). Providing you meet the criteria, you can then apply for your course. Full-time applications go through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), although foundation degree graduates progressing to a relevant top-up programme can (subject to certain criteria) apply to the College direct.
