About this Course:

Aim of Course

The objectives of this course are to gain knowledge of the construction and different types of survival craft during launch and recovery, to manage survivors and survival craft, to manage injured persons and administer first aid. Assessment will be made in the form of direct observation and oral questioning and by simulated scenarios.

  • Boatsuit or Waterproofs
  • Writing Materials
  • Working Kit including Safety Boots and warm clothing
  • If you are attending the wet drill you will require swimming kit, a towel and wash bag

Photographic Proof of identity such as Passport / Discharge Book / Driving Licence Proof of 6 months sea service, Evidence of Survival Training, Evidence of previous Training (Certificate of Competency) where relevant

If insufficient information isn’t provided, it may be necessary to withhold your Certificate of Completion

Important Information

Medical Declaration

Attention is drawn to the fact that parts of the course are of a physical nature. You will be required to complete a medical declaration when you attend your course. An Oil & Gas UK (Formally UKOOA) Medical is required prior to travelling offshore however is not compulsory to attend the course. For an up to date list of Doctors providing this service visit the Oil & Gas UK website as http://www.oilandgasuk.co.uk/issues/health/doctors.cfm and click on your nearest town. Alternatively please ring the RS Occupational health on 0870 0503456 who will be happy to provide you with UKOOA/Oil & Gas UK registered Doctors in you area.

Entry Requirements:

Please note before embarking on this course you must have:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • 6 months seatime on a merchant vessel and successfully completed a Personal Survival Techniques or Basic Survival Course. However if you have been a seafarer in the Merchant Navy for six months prior to 31st July 1998 you are only required to complete a wet drill that includes the righting of an inverted liferaft. If you do not hold a certificate for the wet drill please contact us prior to attending the course to enable this to be organised.

In order to comply with STCW Maritime and Coastguard Agency regulations, all delegates attending Merchant Navy Courses must provide a Seaman’s Discharge Book, Passport or Driving Licence when attending the centre. If you are currently not in possession of at least one of these items, please contact the college before booking your course Failure to comply with this requirement will lead to a delay in the issue of Certificates.

IMPORTANT – Please note the following Cancellations Policy

All fees are strictly non-refundable except when the College cancels the course.

If you are unable to attend your course and have to cancel, the Company/Delegate may be able to transfer to another available date. All transfer requests must be received in writing by FOSC no later than 5 working days prior to the commencement date of the course. Due to loss of business experienced by FOSC, email cancellations during the weekend period are strictly not acceptable for courses that commence on a Monday or Tuesday.

Company delegates that fail to attend on the commencement date of the course and have not provided 5 working days written notice will be invoiced the full course fee.Private delegates that fail to attend and have not provided 5 working days written notice will be charged the full course fee, no course transfer date will be processed and their payment will be lost.

All second transfer requests incur a £50.00 administration fee. Companies who cancel their course booking and do not wish to transfer will be invoiced a £50.00 cancellation fee, Delegates who have made multiple transfers (3+) and fail to attend without the required prior notice in writing will be charged a relevant fee at the discretion of FOSC.
