Award in British Sign Language - Level 1

Qualification Obtained

Award in British Sign Language (QCF)

About this Course:

A sign language class aimed at beginners consisting of a wide range of vocabulary to enable the learner to have a BSL conversation on a variety of topics. Those are – weather, people, animals, objects, workplace, travel, directions and numbers. Some vocabulary will be introduced to enable the learner to ask for other signs required to converse in-class and for the assessments.

Learners will be expected to conduct conversations with their peers on given topics within the classroom.

Assessment Methods:

There are three assessments which are conducted one-to-one with the tutor in front of a video camera. Candidates must pass all three assessments to attain a Signature Level One certificate.

Progression:

Signature offer the only certification employers respect. The Level One qualification is necessary to progress to higher levels of BSL. The college has offered Signature Level Two and Three courses but funding was not available last year in order to offer them.
