The course maintains a strong industry focus, where live briefs and competitions are commonplace, together with a mature and professional working environment. Self-motivation, a strong work ethic and dedication are the key to your success on this programme.
Assessment is based purely on coursework... there is no exam. The course consists of 17 subject units and the course is designed to allow students several chances to succeed in each unit. Work may be re-submitted at any stage during the course to improve grades. During the final months of the second year, students work on a self-directed final major project where they decide on a theme and outcome for their own written brief. Grades attainable range through Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction* and hold the same value as C-A* at A-level. Students who go directly into employment will typically start as junior or assistant photographers, or may apply for a Level 3 Creative Apprenticeship to gain further qualifications in the workplace. Whatever you decide, the qualification, skills and portfolio you gain through this course will help you achieve your goals.
You will be working on practical assignments where you will be producing photography work, with a wide variety of techniques. In addition you will be given the opportunity to investigate experimental approaches to your work, combining a wide range of techniques.
