Foundation Degree in Accounting
N400
The Foundation Degree is aimed at individuals who wish to develop the skills, expertise, knowledge and understanding of accounting related issues with the intention of enhancing their employment potential and to improve their performance and productivity in the workplace. Successful completion can lead onto a full honours degree top-up.
Assessment is by a mixture of examinations, assignments (e.g. essays, case studies, presentations) and an organisation based Project. Tutors will prepare students in study skills and examination techniques.
Students who successfully complete the Foundation Degree in Business Accounting will be considered for progression to top-up Honours Degree in Business Accounting within the School of Business and Professional Studies.
The programme is delivered by traditional classes, which give students the opportunity to work in groups and engage in discussion with tutors and fellow students. Students are expected to supplement their taught classes with reading in their own time. Tutors will direct students to the appropriate reading. Tutors always aim to facilitate student learning in an interesting and innovative manner.
At the beginning of each year there is an induction period when students receive some of the basic information which they need to know about the college and studying here. We shall also ensure that students get to know their tutors and both first and second year students by completing a project with them.
All students have a Personal Tutor, who is responsible for a tutorial group. The tutorial system is a very important part of the course. All students are given a tutorial and assignment workshop programme, which, whilst clearly structured, is also flexible enough to respond to the needs of the group and fully support each student's skills development. All tutors also operate an 'open door' policy and are happy to discuss any problems with students.
On completion of the degree, a student should have the following subject-specific knowledge and skills:
