Adult and Community - Essential Skills

The School of Access and Continuing Education at Blackpool and The Fylde College has been working in partnership with Job Centre Plus to develop and deliver a new, quality training/employability initiative. The aim of this initiative is to provide individuals not in employment with the pre-employment skills, including basic and transferable skills, to help them get into work. The flexible 13-week programme improves literacy and numeracy skills and develops confidence, which increases employability.

The programme offers opportunities for work placements, related to the type of work that inspires the learner. At the end of the programme all learners are presented with an individually ‘Prepared’ Record of Achievement portfolio, which is evidence of their successes throughout the course and of all their hard work. The portfolio may include nationally-recognised qualifications, College certificates, recognition for attendance and punctuality, the learner’s own profile and evaluations from employers, tutors and peers. This new initiative is providing improved employment opportunities for the long-term unemployed. Listed alongside are the courses available at various centres around the Fylde coast.
