Adult and Community - Access to Higher Education

About the Access to Higher Education Diploma

This one-year course has been specially designed for mature students who wish to progress to university. Applicants will need an English GCSE minimum grade C and we may recommend you take additional qualifications alongside this one. The Access to Higher Education Diploma has proved to be a highly successful route to Higher Education. You will be based at our fantastic new £10million University Centre, where many of our students progress onto one of the College's degree courses.

Subjects Studied

  • Social Science: Sociology and Psychology
  • English and Humanities: Two subjects from English, History or Creative Writing
  • Health and Care: Human Physiology and Health and Social Issues in Health Care

  • In many cases, these courses are free with only your exam fees to pay
  • Financial help with childcare may be available if you are on means-tested benefits
  • An Adult Learning Grant paying up to £30 a week may be available if you earn under a certain amount
  • Just 15 hours class-based time per week leaves time for work and other commitments
