Recycling, A Load of Rubbish?

You may have noticed a whole clan of new colour-coded recycling bins popping up over all campuses. There are currently nearly 80 special bins for plastic bottles, aluminium cans, waste paper and cardboard situated conveniently in canteens, corridors and larger offices.

All recyclables will be collected by the local charity Helping Hands who then collect the recyclables and sell them on to the local council for a small profit in order to fund the charity.

The launch of the new recycling campaign aims to encourage staff and students to think about the waste they are throwing away and encourage them to become more eco friendly and will help with the implementation of the new waste management plan.

The recycling scheme is expected to reduce waste going to landfill by 30 - 40% which would have significant benefits to the College, Helping Hands and Blackpool Council.

This development is a positive step towards creating a more sustainable college and demonstrates our commitment to recycling and waste management. Look out for the bins as you walk around!
