Students Celebrate Exams Success

Students from Blackpool and The Fylde College were celebrating an outstanding set of A Level and vocational BTEC qualification results with an overall pass rate of 98%.

The College’s success rate means many students will go on to top universities across the country, despite the fact that competition for Higher Education places is tougher than ever before.

Brainy Eddie Chui, 19, from Blackpool secured the A in Chemistry he needed to study Pharmacy at the University of Bradford. Eddie decided he wanted to be a pharmacist last summer and is looking forward to the different environment university will offer. He hopes to open his own pharmacy chain one day!

Blackpool’s Peter Latham, 19, was over the moon after being awarded A grades in Psychology and Sociology and a B in History. Peter’s hard work has been rewarded with a place at Manchester University to study the subject he finds most interesting, History, and he hopes this will lead to a range of opportunities in the future.

Despite not following the traditional A Level route, the future looks bright for BTEC Medical Science student Rachael Corbett, who has a coveted place at King’s College London to study Biochemistry from September.

Jasmine Todd, also 19, boosted her existing art qualification with A Levels in Chemistry and Maths, which she scored an A and a B for respectively. Jasmine will now take up an offer from the University of Lincoln to study Architecture, a subject which will utilise both her creative and scientific sides.

Melissa Beveridge and Dale Caldwell, Both 18, were pleased to receive an A* grade, introduced for the first time this year for students scoring more than 90%. Melissa, who added B’s in Media Studies and Health and Social Care to her Sociology A* will be studying Law and Criminology at Salford University from September, while Dale, whose A* in Film Studies was supplemented with B’s in English and Maths and a C in Drama, will take a Media Production BTEC to strengthen his application for a Production based degree next year.

18 year old Charlotte Yousaf from Blackpool had reason to smile after getting better grades than she expected in A Level Film Studies and Sociology and AS Level Law – she will become the first person in her family to study for a degree when she heads off to Blackburn College to read Law.

Catherine Hill, Vice Principal of Curriculum and Standards at Blackpool and The Fylde College said:

“I’d like to offer my sincere congratulations to all of the students who have worked so hard to achieve their grades. As they march on to greater things, I hope they will all look back fondly at their College days, and we look forward to welcoming many of them back to our University Centre in September.”
