A brave student from Blackpool and The Fylde College has had his legs waxed to raise money for Comic Relief.
Jamie Slattery, 16, who is studying on a Gateway Foundation course, decided on the stunt as he wanted to ‘do something funny for money’ to help other young people in the UK and in Africa.
Jamie said:
“I thought it would be a laugh and encourage people to give money to charity. I went round the College, churches, hairdressers, even a bank asking people to support me and I’ve raised almost £200.
“It really hurts but its worth it. I’m going to wear shorts to College next week, I’ll probably get a few ‘lovely legs’ comments but I don’t mind, I’m proud of myself and my tutors are really proud of me too.”
Therapist Cara Neumann from the Beauty Rooms at Blackpool and The Fylde College carried out the treatment. She said:
“I feel really mean as Jamie’s in pain but at least its for a good cause.”
