Welcome to Academic Studies

Another successful year for the School of Academic Studies saw the number of GCSE students performed exceptionally well once again, setting a bestever pass rate of 97%. A new A-level in Communications and Culture was introduced, looking at popular culture, fashion and a range of modern media.

The School’s BTEC National Certificate in Applied Sciences (Forensic Science) received an award from The Good Schools Guide for the best results achieved by girls taking Applied Sciences at an English school the Certificate is a two-year programme, equivalent to 2 A-levels

A two-day work-related learning event, focusing on Forensic Science, was held to promote progression from school to College and attracted more than 200 learners from 8 local high schools. Speakers included a solicitor and two police officers. The School has made significant investment in the refurbishment of its laboratories this year, reflecting the increased demand for Forensic Science at all levels.

The Foundation Degree in Criminology proved to be increasingly popular, with many learners employed in the criminal justice sector and the court system. Students were placed with: HMP Kirkham, Blackpool Youth Offending Team, the Bridge Project and Victim Support.
