Accounting students won the North West regional competition and went forward to the UK Final in London won Saturday 26th June 2010 at the AAT offices where they won the Gold.

The competition comprised over a number of accounting tasks, both data and tasks were installed on a computer. The tasks included:
The team were sent e-mails which they then had to prioritise. These e-mails involved amending and correcting the accounting ledgers. They also had to respond to some e-mails over errors and queries with sales and purchase ledger accounts and also health & safety issues.
They had three hours to complete these tasks. This competition placed more emphasis on problem solving, team work and leadership skills.
The School has two learners who have been successful in securing a place in the National Finals which take place between the 6th and 10th September.
After hosting the regional heats where five of their students went through to the national finals, The School of Hair, Beauty and Related Therapies is celebrating three medal winners;
The school hosted the regional heats of the Hairdressing/L’Oreal competition. One of the students on the Level 2 Hairdressing course has won a bronze medal in the UK Skills regional competition in Manchester.
On Thursday 20th May, the School took learners to compete in the North West heat of the WorldSkills UK Competitions where learners achieved:
Of these Lisa Tanner-Marshall, Michelle Rodgers and Danielle Brabiner have been successful in securing a place in the National Final which will be held in Derby on 26th June.
Music students are finalists in the UK Skills Competition which had over 200 entrants for the second year running. Members of the 2010 band, "The Mad Hatters", are Alana-Jade Dixon, Lee Burrows, Dave Drury, Peter Glass, Connor Parsons and Jessica Harwood.
World Skills UK Uniformed Services hosted by Blackpool and The Fylde College included 20 college teams from areas as far away as Coleg Menai in Wales and the Adam Smith Institute in Scotland. Students carried out a wide range of exercises under the supervision of the Royal Engineers Army Corps and the St John's Ambulance Brigade. These included simulating the safe evacuation of injured passengers from a serious car crash and defusing an explosive device.
At the end of a long and gruelling day, our students came second in the heat and went forward to the National Final.
