WorldSkills UK

As a WorldSkills UK Champion, Blackpool and The Fylde College’s Principal and Chief Executive Pauline Waterhouse OBE, is responsible for encouraging organisations to get involved in WorldSkills UK competitions, raising the level of skills and the aspirations of young people and increasing the number of people participating in these skills competitions.

The College has a long and proud tradition of successful participation in WorldSkills competitions and is pleased to be involved in a number of disciplines once again in 2011.

WorldSkills 2011

Here is a definitive list of our successful students this year. Congratulations to all.

School of Hairdressing, Beauty and Related Therapies
  • Gold - Lisa Tanner Marshall, Advanced Nail Art
  • Silver - Emma Saxon, Advanced Hairdressing
  • Bronze - Tina Kiely, Reflexology
  • Highly Commended - Ben Reynolds, Intermediate Hairdressing
  • Lisa Fallows also made the final for Intermediate Nail Art but did not secure a medal
School of Business and Professional Studies
  • Bronze - Rebecca Crawford, David Hughes and Craig Lancum, AAT Accounting
School of Society, Health and Childhood
  • Highly Commended - Laura Slack, Caring
School of Construction
  • Richard McLaren, Plastering has made the final of SkillBuild which takes place from 14th-16th September 2011
School of Engineering and Computing
  • Rachael Carr has been selected for Team UK to compete in the Manufacturing Team Challenge at WorldSkills London 2011, 5th-8th October.

The Heats:

Hairdressing, Beauty and Related Therapies

The School took part in the regional heats in May and did very well, with the following students placed:

First place:

  • Level 3 Advanced Nail Art - Lisa Tanner-Marshall
  • Level 2 Intermediate Nail Enhancements- Jaycee Cooper
  • Level 3 Advanced Reflexology - Tina Kiely

Second place:

  • Level 2 Intermediate Nail Art - Lisa Fallows

Third place:

  • Level 2 Intermediate Beauty - Izabela Dunnat

Lisa Tanner-Marshall, Tina Kiely and Lisa Fallows will go through to the national final in Cambridge on Saturday 25th June.

Art, Media and Performance

The School will be entering students in:

  • Popular Music level 3

Society, Health and Childhood

Laura Slack, Pathway to Nursing Year 1, achieved one of the top 10 results in the country in the Caring competition and will compete at the national final in London in July

Construction

The school will be entering various disciplines in:

  • Skillbuild

On Friday 31st March 2011, the School of Construction hosted the Northwest heats of the Skillbuild competition for the second year running. Both our Bispham and Kincraig sites were involved.
